A Glens Falls company has presented plans for a 5-megawatt solar farm to the town of Union planning board.
Renua Energy of Glens Falls has submitted an application for a solar array which would be built on a 31-acre site at 525 Boswell Hill Road, a few miles northwest of Endicott.
Project developer Todd Friedman of Westchester County said it's difficult to predict a starting date for construction at the site. He said it would depend in large part on when interconnection work can be scheduled by NYSEG.
Friedman said he expected the project cost would be about $8.1 million. He described that as a "conservative estimate."
Subscribers to the "community solar" project would be eligible to receive electric bill discounts of up to ten percent.
In addition to the solar array, plans call for the construction of two concrete transformer pads, a gravel access road and two shallow stormwater basins.
The solar array would be surrounded by a 7-foot-high fence to secure the facility.
After the site is decommissioned, the developers said the land will be restored to its original state.
