Renua Energy Completes 95.7 kW Municipal Solar Installation for City of Beacon

Renua Energy has completed a 95.7 kW DC solar PV installation at the Beacon Town Garage for the City of Beacon. The system was designed to help offset the City’s costs and was part of the original vision when the garage was constructed.

Delivering 100 kW AC of clean power, the installation supports long-term municipal energy cost reduction while positioning the City to evaluate additional properties for solar deployment.

Project Overview

The Beacon Town Garage was built and designed to support future solar to help offset city’s costs. With no trees shading the roof and favorable conditions for solar production, the facility offered strong rooftop potential.

System Specifications:

  • 95.7 kW DC

  • 100 kW AC

  • 165 × 580W ZNSHINE ZXM7-UHLDD144 modules

  • 2 × Yaskawa Solectria PVI 50TL (50 kW each)

  • DC/AC Ratio: 0.957

  • Unity power factor (1.0)

  • NYSERDA through grant program – NY-Sun

The project moved from design through commissioning in five weeks.

Project Goals & Structural Challenges

Municipal Solar Installation New York

The Town wanted to cover entire roof to offset all kW hrs but couldn’t due to structural limitations. Quite a few zones engineer told us we couldn’t use—snow load plus array load created a structural challenge as it wasn’t fully able to support load even though it’s a new building.

Weather was also a factor, with snowstorms and ice adding one week to the project schedule. Renua will maintain the system for 2 yrs following installation, ensuring continued operational confidence.

Engineering & Installation Approach

The system utilized independent S5 racking clips. Using independent system of S5 clips individually vs rails make it harder to place panels, resulting in increased labor costs. Despite the added complexity, this approach allowed the system to be installed within structural load limits while maintaining performance standards.

Coordination was handled directly with City stakeholders. The on-site highway super showed where to stage materials, and the City engineer served as the main POC, with weekly updates provided throughout the project. Safety remained a priority, with OSHA cert., proper harnesses, and headwear/footwear used throughout installation. The project was delivered on time and on budget.

System Results & Municipal Impact

The completed system delivers 95.7 kW DC and 100 kW AC of clean energy for municipal operations.

  • Part of the reason for building garage was to have solar and offset costs.

  • From a city perspective, this project provides a foundation to look at other city properties to see if it works elsewhere.

  • The installation qualified under NYSERDA through the NY-Sun grant program, strengthening the financial viability of municipal solar deployment.

Why Municipalities Choose Renua Energy

Renua differentiates itself through an execution-first approach and the ability to self-perform critical scopes with an in-house team—reducing handoffs, tightening schedule control, and increasing accountability from mobilization through commissioning. We’re also a NYS-certified Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB), bringing a disciplined, compliance-ready delivery culture that’s well-suited for grant-funded and stakeholder-heavy projects.

  • In-house self-perform capability for core scopes → fewer subcontract layers, faster decisions, tighter control

  • NYS-certified SDVOSB → strong execution discipline and documentation/compliance

  • Local presence → two team members based in Beacon; community-aligned delivery

Beyond delivery, Renua can support municipal owners with techno-economic modeling using industry-leading software to evaluate both the technical and financial feasibility of additional sites. This capability helps quantify and compare opportunities for solar and energy storage—specifically to reduce energy costs, reduce carbon, and increase resiliency—so decisions are grounded in data and implementable pathways.
